The possibility of an early election is growing larger by the day, as serious concerns have arisen over the future of the Labour Party under Joan Burton’s rule.
With its popular support steadily dwindling for months, Labour has become a major drag on the Government, and it is understood that the Taoiseach has been advised that the longer he waits to call an election, the deeper that drag will be.
In other words, Labour has become a millstone around the Government’s neck.
Sources from Fine Gael have admitted that there is “little or no prospect” of Fine Gael and Labour returning to power together.
