In what can only be described as something that resembles “The Day After Tomorrow” movie, the east coast of America has been smashed by severe weather.

A polar vortex has hit the east coast of the United States with heavy snowfall, adding to the misery of the Covid-19 outbreak there.

Snow fell in New York’s Central Park on Saturday, something that had not happened since May of 1977. Accumulations of up to 10in were reported in some areas of the city.

Temperatures are expected to drop to -1C across much of the eastern seaboard today.
