If you are a numismatic fan, today’s your lucky day, as the Central Bank has just issued a brand new, 1916-themed commemorative €2 coin.

4.5 million of these newly minted items will be released into circulation today, so the general public will be able to get their hands on one of these beauties in the near future.

Paul Molumby, Director of Currency and Facilities Management at the Bank said:

“The design reflects back to the GPO and its association with the Easter Rising and the reading of the Proclamation.

“We are working with the banks, An Post, and the cash in transit companies to get the coin into circulation as soon as possible.

“Members of the public can expect to see the coins in the coming weeks as they come into general circulation.”

And for the hardcore collectors, additional 1916-related merchandise will also be for sale, such as:

€2 Proof quality cased coin
2016 proof quality nine coin set
2016 Annual mint set containing the nine 2016 dated coins and a commemorative booklet
€2 Uncirculated coin card
€2 Uncirculated coin cookmark
