The nations capital Dublin, has placed at number 33 on the list measuring quality of living in cities throughout the world.

The ranking has been considered a success due to the fact our own ‘Fair City’ has been placed ahead of other major cities such as London which came in at number 39, whilst Edinburgh, Belfast, Paris, Madrid and Rome came in at numbers 46,64,37,52 and 53 respectively.

The global list which was conducted by Mercer’s 18th Annual Quality of Living, is apparently designed to primarily enable multinational companies and employers to “compensate employees fairly when placing them on international assignments”.

According to its statistics the Austrian city of Vienna topped the list as the best place to live. It was quickly followed by Zurich (Switzerland); Auckland (New Zealand); Munich (Germany); Vancouver (Canada); Dusseldorf (Germany); Frankfurt (Germany); Geneva (Switzerland); Copenhagen (Denmark) and Sydney (Australia).

Meanwhile Baghdad in Iraq came in last place, whilst (Bangui Central African Republic); Sana’a (Yemen) and Port Au Prince in (Haiti) were voted the worst places to live in the survey.

Meanwhile Dublin’s ranking of 33 was welcomed by Noel O’Connor of Mercer Ireland who said Dublin’s placement was in part down to “a stable political environment, lower levels of air pollution and a strong socio-cultural environment”. “The results demonstrate that Dublin remains an attractive location for international businesses to send their employees.”
