Ebola outbreak declared in the Democratic Republic of Congo

A new outbreak of the deadly Ebola disease has been declared in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Two subjects tested positive in an area around the northwestern part of the country, but there are at least 21 suspected cases elsewhere.

Ebola is deadly to humans in approximately 50% of cases, depending on the subject’s general health status and treatment received.

The last major outbreak, which happened over two years in 2014-2016, killed over 11,000 across several African nations.
