Economy boost: Two companies announce plans to create over 700 jobs in Westmeath and Donegal

There was some good news for jobseekers today as two announcements from two different companies will see the creation of 700 jobs over the coming years.

In what will be a significant boost the economy both Abbott Ireland and Mr Price confirmed that 500 and 200 positions will be created respectively.

Abbott Ireland who make products that aids in the treatment of diabetes, say they will create in the region of 500 jobs at its manufacturing plant in Lurganboy, Co Donegal.

It is expected the jobs will be created as part of the company’s plans to extend their existing plant.

The company were granted planning permission for a 3,301 meter extension last year.

Meanwhile the discount retail brand Mr Price announced that they will create 200 jobs at its new central warehousing base in Athlone.

The company which has 42 stores nationwide will create 80 jobs before the end of the year, with the remaining 120 jobs expected to be created over the next two years.
