The Minister for Education Richard Bruton has announced today that the sexual education curriculum in Ireland is set for an overhaul.

In an announcement before he met with the ASTI, Mr Bruton said that the issue of consent will be further highlighted in the Relationships and Sexual Education curriculum.

Speaking ahead of an ASTI conference today Mr Bruton stated that the department is currently in the process of creating a new curriculum as the current module being though at schools is 20 years out of date.

In what will be a busy week for the Education Minister as he attempts to address the current two tier pay gap between teachers, he also stated that the key issues of sexual safety and LGBQT rights will also be highlighted under the new curriculum.

During the announcement Mr Bruton stated that the new module will work closely with parents, teachers and students in order to provide Ireland’s young generation with the appropriate information when it comes to relationships and overall sexual health.

Mr Bruton added that all students have the right to access information in regards to sexual health.
