The leader of the Anti-Austerity Alliance has taken yet another swipe at current government TDs, including the Housing Minister Paudie Coffey by saying they are private landlords.

The latest criticism by party leader Ruth Coppinger comes as she outlined the party’s housing policy calls for rent controls on private properties. Ms Coppinger also outlined details for further affordable housing if her party are elected into Government.

The Anti-Austerity Alliance leader slammed Government Ministers Alan Kelly and Minister Coffey for opposing rent control because they own numerous properties and they would themselves be affected by it.

Ms Coppinger said: “One in four of our TDs are landlords, with multiple properties,” “Paudie Coffey is – he’s the Housing Minister. Doesn’t that make him somewhat biased?

“Alan Kelly’s a landlord as well. “That’s why they have this in-built idea of not wanting to interfere with the market.”
