Without a shadow of a doubt, Fine Gael very much under-performed yesterday. Not only did they not receive an overall majority, they are finding themselves in a struggle this morning to even consider forming a government.
Without all seats filled, it looks likely that Fine Gael will finish around 24% while Fianna Fail will be on 22%.
The two rivals have long since been talked about going into a possible coalition, but many pundits are claiming this is almost impossible.
Meanwhile, last night, Enda Kenny said “there is no way I’m going to step down from the leadership of Fine Gael”.
This statement came amongst growing rumours that irrespective of a newly formed government, Kenny’s leadership is under immense pressure from Leo Varadkar.
