The country went to the polls just two days ago… and there’s already talks of a new election to form a government.
The results still aren’t in so nothing is definite, but the most likely looking scenario is a Fianna Fail and Fine Gael coalition. Something unprecedented given their history since the formation of the State.
However, with Fine Gael on roughly 24% and Fianna Fail on 22%, it is the only likely possibility considering there’s more than likely going to be a hung Dail.
With that in mind, pundits are claiming this morning that if such a coalition goes ahead, it would never last past the summer. Other pundits are saying that there’s no way on earth there’ll be a coalition between the two rival parties. There’s far too much history to put it aside and that Fianna Fail wouldn’t be prepared to go in as the minority party.
