Outgoing Taoiseach Enda Kenny has today added insult to injury on his own constituency when he said “Some of them wouldn’t know sunshine if they saw it”, referring to the residents of his hometown.

These comments come a day after he referred to the people in Castlebar as “whingers”. and he has expressed no remorse about such comments.

Mr. Kenny made the comments during a Fine Gael rally in Castlebar.

When asked if he regrets saying such offensive remarks, he said: “No I don’t,” and then he “Some of them wouldn’t know sunshine if they saw it.”

Fianna Fáil’s representatives have called for an apology.
“The arrogance that has been the hallmark of Fine Gael in Government and their national campaign is now emerging locally and is a sign of the pressure the Taoiseach is beginning to feel,”
“The Taoiseach must apologise to the people of Castlebar for his insensitive and out of touch remarks.”
