Election promises bonanza: Fianna Fáil now promise to scrap Irish Water and water charges if they are given power at the next election

Mere hours after the scandal of Micheál Martin topping up his own salary to the tune of 30k courtesy of the taxpayer broke, he has solemnly promised that his party will do away with Irish Water and water charges if they are elected into power.

Mr. Martin made such fallacious claim in his closing address to the party’s acolytes at an Ard Fheis in Dublin.

He added: “We’re going to take a lead…We’re going to get an independent analysis of our commitments, which reviews the accuracy and affordability of our costings and their impact on economic growth.

“We will publish this with the manifesto. There will be no auction politics, no uncosted promises, no proposals which could damage the economy, and I challenge the other parties to follow our lead.”
