Emergency services in Co Cork have confirmed late last night that they have rescued five people, including one child, off the coast of Cork after a speedboat began taking on water.
It is believed that the Courmacsherry lifeboat was alerted to a distress call which reported that a speedboat got into major difficulties a number of miles off the coast. Emergency services say they received the call at approximately 6.40pm yesterday evening alerting them that a family was in danger after gusty conditions caused significant damage to their boat.
Thankfully the crew of the lifeboat managed to rescue all passengers on board the vessel before they towed the large sinking speedboat back to Courtmacsherry Pier. It is understood that there were no major injuries to any of the passengers on board but they where taken to a nearby hospital and were treated for shock.
