The much hated state utility Irish Water is about to get more annoying for the Irish public as a spokesperson for the company has said the utility will be contacting people regarding unpaid bills.

Irish Water spokeswoman Elizabeth Arnett confirmed the news last night saying the move was needed as every utility/company enters into such a strategy in order to keep people informed that there bills need paying. Ms Arnett said the company will be contacting people in a number of ways to remind them to pay their bill, this will be by phone, text message or post she said. Ms Arnett explained: “This is a process that every normal utility company enters into when there are outstanding bills.’ “So as part of this bill cycle, when two bills have been issued and 21 days have elapsed without any type of payment being made we will be contacting customers to remind them that the bill is outstanding, to remind them of all of the payment options that we have, to offer them a payment plan … and to see if they want to pay the bill there and then.”

Ms Arnett went onto say the company was contacting people because a large amount of bills have not been paid. Ms Arnett also explained that some people may still be contacted even though they have paid their bill because they not be officially registered with Irish Water. She also warned that additional charges will be issued if a customer continuously refuses to pay their bill.
