There is a saying in Spain that goes something like ‘when you see you neighbor’s beard being cut, begin to soak your own.’
The UK’s ending of its troubled relationship with the EU is the equivalent to that beard, and Enda Kenny has hastily cobbled together a speech full of overtly dramatic implications in an effort to stave off any incipient revolutionary thoughts among his favorite subjects.
He has moved to assure that Ireland will remain in the EU, lest the unthinkable befalls us all.
In a buzzword-heavy and substance-light speech, Mr. Kenny uttered gems like “address the contingencies arising from the UK’s decision”, and “protect and advance” the interest of Ireland.
He added “In the immediate term, the Minister for Finance and his officials are in close contact with the Central Bank, the NTMA and our international partners to ensure that any short-term market volatility is carefully managed.”
He also commiserated British Prime Minister on his resignation and wished him the best for the future.
