For attacking a garda in a courthouse last year, Sean Burke, Enoch Burke’s father, received a two-month prison sentence, reports RTE.
The 60-year-old from Cloonsunna, Castlebar, Co Mayo, was imprisoned subsequent to his refusal to sign a bail committing him to a year of good behaviour.
In the same event, his daughter Ammi was exonerated of hindering a garda.
Last year, at a hearing in the case of his son Enoch, who is incarcerated for contempt of court, Sean Burke was convicted guilty of assaulting Garda Victoria Fisher in the Four Courts, reports RTE.
On March 7, last year, as Martina, the wife of Sean Burke, was being led out of the court, he seized Gda Fisher, knocked her down, and she struck a radiator.
But after a three-day hearing, Judge Ronan Munro found him guilty of assaulting the garda, and he lost the case, reports RTE.
The court did not believe that knocking down the policeman was an accident and cited the undisputed evidence that Sean Burke yelled at the gardaà to leave his wife alone.
Sean Burke intentionally used force, according to Judge Munro’s ruling, reports RTE.
He gave Sean Burke a two-month jail term, which he suspended with the stipulation that he maintain good behaviour and peace for a year.
Sean Burke, however, stated that he did not accept the conviction and declined to sign the bond because he felt dehumanised during the trial.
He was ordered to serve the sentence by Judge Munro, reports RTE.
