Making calls to other EU countries will now be a whole lot cheaper after lawmakers agreed that SMS and call prices will be capped.

In a move which is thought to come as part of plans for new and improved Internet services across the continent, phone companies will now only charge 19c per minute per call to other EU states, whilst text messages will cost no more than 6c each.

Although the move has been questioned by phone operators who claim the usage of free Internet services such as WhatsApp and Skype have has a detrimental effect on the industry.

However EU lawmakers argue that changes must be made given that international calls and texts were significantly and unfairly high on consumers.
