Europe’s largest migrant camp has been ‘completely destroyed’ in a fire allegedly started by residents, CNN reports.

The Moria camp, situated on the Greek island of Lesbos, is home to 13,000 people despite having a maximum capacity of just 2200. Over 4000 of the camp’s inhabitants are minors according to the UN’s Refugee Agency.

According to CNN, several residents and local media outlets have reported that the fire was started by young migrants protesting against the camp’s lockdown measures. Earlier in the week the camp imposed restrictions due to 35 residents testing positive for Covid-19.

So far no injuries have been reported, and local authorities are working to assess the damage of the massive blaze.
