The wildfires currently devastating southern California are being attributed to a so-called “gender reveal party” which went wrong and sparked the cataclysmic blaze that has forced the US’ most populous state to begin rolling power black outs of the first time since 2011.
According to Forbes a smoke-generating pyrotechnic device used at a gender reveal party started the El Dorado Fire in California’s San Bernardino County.
A gender reveal party is an even held to announce the gender of an unborn child and since their growing popularity in recent years people have been find ever more elaborate and outlandish ways of announcing the sex of their child.
This is in fact not even the first time such an event has sparked a massive wildfire as in April 2017 a 47,000-acre wildfire in Arizona that cost $8.2 million for more than 800 firefighters to extinguish was sparked by a man who shot a container with explosives full of coloured powder meant to reveal the gender of his upcoming baby.
