Eurovision Song Contest probably won’t take place in Ukraine next year with UK a likely contender

In a decision that has disappointed Ukrainian fans of the Eurovision, it has been announced that next year’s song contest will probably take place in the UK and not in Ukraine.

According to the Metro, given that the country won the contest in May, it would be the natural host under the tradition of the Eurovision.  However, the European Broadcasting Union, which organises the event, has said that there may be difficulties in holding the contest there due to the war with Russia.

The situation could get ugly, as the Ukrainian broadcaster UA:PBC has opposed the change of venue, saying that they have done everything they are required to do in order to host the show.  They now want to enter into further negotiations in order to see if agreement can be reached to let them go ahead.

Meanwhile however, it is thought that discussions will take place with the BBC so that they can take over the hosting while including strong references to Ukraine who will miss out on a global audience unless things change.
