“Every life is worthwhile” – Pro Life groups not happy as France forces through abortion into the constitution

After the French parliament decided to include the right to an abortion in the constitution, France became the first nation in history to provide clear legal protection for ending a pregnancy, reports RTE.

With 780 lawmakers voting in support of the move and 72 against, a congress of both houses of parliament, assembled in a special chamber at the Palace of Versailles, easily obtained the three-fifths supermajority required for the reform.

The deputies gave a standing ovation and cheered the adjustment.

A special public event is scheduled to honour the relocation in Paris on International Women’s Day, March 8, as President Emmanuel Macron called it as a gesture of “French pride” that has sent a “universal message”, reports RTE.

Following the passage of the legislation, the Eiffel Tower was lighted up in celebration, with phrases like “My Body My Choice” flashing across the structure.

“This is a fundamental step… A step that will go down in history,” Prime Minister Gabriel Attal told the politicians as he urged them to pass the legislation, reports RTE.
