“They’re not wanted here” – Locals protest Ukrainian accommodation site being built in Kildare

The High Court has heard that protestors are still blocking access to a location where emergency housing for hundreds of migrants from Ukraine is being constructed, reports RTE.

A interim injunction prohibiting protestors from barring entrances was obtained last week by Total Experience Ltd., doing business as Pastures New Accommodation, which is building facilities at Newhall, Naas, Co Kildare, for families escaping the war.

The business asserts that those who are against the State’s supply of housing for displaced people are still impeding its efforts.

Despite the injunction being granted, the protest is still going on, according to Gary McCarthy SC, who represented Barry Mansfield Bl on behalf of the plaintiff, when the case was brought back before the High Court today, reports RTE.

The court heard that his client’s delivery trucks and employees are still having trouble getting to the location.

Some of the demonstrators departed the location when the injunction was obtained.

Court informed of camp encampment set up at entrance

Counsel said that the demonstrators had set up a camping near the gate, on what is part of his client’s land, complete with a tent or gazebo, reports RTE.

It was alleged that although some smaller trucks are able to approach and exit the site, the presence of the campground has hindered the ability of bigger articulated lorries to do so.

Counsel stated that the protestors’ refusal to vacate the encampment makes it his client’s position that they are trespassing, reports RTE.
