At 10pm on Saturday night an exit poll conducted on 5,000 shows a dead heat between Sinn Fine, Fianna Fail and Fine Gael.
There already has been much debate as to what way this whole election could play out, but for now, the first preference election poll predicts an election tie.
RTE reports the results as follows:
Fine Gael 22.4
Sinn Fein 22.3
Fianna Fail 22.2
Green Party 7.9
Labour 4.6
Social Democrats 3.4
Aontu 1.8
Others 1.5
Independents 11.2
