Extreme left politician Paul Murphy dismisses Conor McGregor’s potential presidential bid

People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy has dismissed suggestions that MMA fighter Conor McGregor might run for the Irish presidency later this year. Speaking at a press conference in Dublin, Mr. Murphy stated that McGregor’s potential candidacy would not gain significant public support. According to RTÉ, he argued that while McGregor may have a strong presence on social media platforms, this does not translate into widespread popularity among the Irish public.

Mr. Murphy also criticized Taoiseach Micheál Martin’s recent “quiet diplomacy” with US President Donald Trump, following McGregor’s controversial St. Patrick’s Day meeting with Mr. Trump at the White House. RTÉ reports that Mr. Murphy described the meeting as “abhorrent,” citing McGregor’s divisive reputation and past controversies. He further condemned the Trump administration for promoting McGregor as a representative of Ireland during the visit.

The remarks highlight ongoing debates about McGregor’s public image and his potential role in Irish politics.
