Facebook and HSE concerned about Covid-19 false news and launch “Together Against Covid-19 Misinformation” ads in conjunction with WHO

The lack of media and political debate around Covid-19 vaccines is causing many in the Irish Community to question the official narrative, leading to individuals researching the vaccine on their own.

Government, Facebook the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the HSE are very concerned that individuals may be getting a different viewpoint about Covid-19 vaccines which may show vaccines in a a negative light.

To counter this, Facebook Ireland and the WHO have just launched a new “Together Against Covid-19 Misinformation” campaign aimed at newsfeeds in Ireland. A series of advertisements to encourage people to only use “accurate information from credible sources such as Ireland’s Heath Service Executive (HSE)” according to Breakingnews.ie

The “Together Against Covid-19 Misinformation” advertisements will ask Facebook members to check sources. The ads will also ask how Covid-19 information makes you feel as Facebook believes false news can manipulate feelings for clicks. Lastly the Facebook advertisements will ask their members to check the context of any Covid-19 information they see. They suggest to look to official public health authorities to confirm content.
