A Syrian refugee detonated an explosive device outside a bar in the German city of Ansbach last night, killing himself and injuring 12 others, three of them seriously.
It is understood that the attacker was a 27-year-old Syrian migrant who had recently failed to obtain residency in Germany. It is also believed he had a history of mental issues and had spent time in a psychiatric unit.
The blast took place near an area where over 2,000 people had gathered for a music festival.
The attack is thought to be an isolated incident, but links to extremist organizations have not yet been ruled out.
