“False widow” Spider bite treatment to cost Irish woman €900

Sinead, a Dublin woman will have to pay a dermatologist €900 to perform a skin biopsy on a False Widow spider bite, reports BreakingNews.ie

Sinead rang Liveline and told the nation how she was bitten on the forearm whilst asleep. Initially Sinead thought the bite was a cigarette burn or blister and thought it would fade away after a few days. Then it flared up and she visited a pharmacist who told Sinead it was a spider bite.

To avoid doctor costs Sinead went to a health shop who recommended an anti-bacterial treatment. But she decided to visit the doctor after Christmas as the bite was not healing and was now full of puss. She was then referred to a dermatologist at a private hospital who confirmed it was a spider bite.

Her dermatologist wants to perform a skin biopsy on the bite, which will cost around €900.
