The family of an Irish army veteran have issued a heartfelt appeal, after callous burglars stole a number of medals from the man’s house.

It is understood that the home of 81-year-old George Hunt in Crumlin, Dublin, was broken into on Friday morning. The thieves took a sum of money and a number of medals of great sentimental and personal value to Mr. Hunt. The former soldier earned these medals throughout his 30 year-long career in the military, where he attained the rank of Sergeant Major.

Mr. Hunt’s name and military identification number are printed on the stolen items so they cannot be mistaken.

Gardai are investigating the incident.
