The brother of a boy who was attacked by a dog over the weekend said he hopes we can talk again, but “we don’t know for sure”.

Raúl Miszan said his nine-year-old brother Alejandro was currently communicating in writing or signatures, after having his lip torn off in the attack in County Wexford on Sunday.

Alejandro also suffered many other injuries.

Gardaí and 911 responded to the scene of the incident in Enniscorthy, where it was learned that Alejandro was attacked by a neighbor’s dog while playing on a putting green with some friends.

The neighbors managed to snatch the dog from the boy.

The dog, intended to be either an XL bull or an American bully, has been euthanized.

Raúl said his family is heartbroken and in shock. He said that he is always by his brother’s side because he knows that he will feel better if he sees him during the short periods that he is awake.

“He likes to talk to everybody, he is just a very friendly child,” Raul said, reports RTE.

Raúl said it was very difficult to stop the dog, but he understands that a neighbor hit him with a baseball bat until he stopped attacking.

That man is a hero, said Raúl.

“God bless the man’s family that helped my brother get out of the dog’s mouth. He’s a hero,” reports RTE.

Raúl said that the doctors told his family that they had “never seen anything like this before”, reports RTE.

He urged parents to be aware of dogs and to be careful, saying he doesn’t want anyone to feel the way his family feels now.
