Farrell’s reign gets off to winning start as Ireland beat Scotland in Six Nations opener

Ireland have got off to a winning start as they beat Scotland in the Aviva Stadium this evening.

In a far from perfect performance Ireland have Johnny Sexton and Scotland’s ill discipline to thank as they won 19-12.

Ireland who will be looking for an improved performance against Wales next week just came out on top as a resolute Scotland fought hard and almost took the spoils in front of the home crowd.

Ireland scored the only try of the game via new captain Sexton who added a further 12 points via the boot.

Although Scotland piled late pressure, Ireland just about hung to claim a much needed win following a disappointing World Cup last October.

Scores as follows:

Ireland 19

Tries: Sexton (10)
Conversions: Sexton (12)
Penalties: Sexton (35,45,57,73)

Scotland 12

Penalties: Hastings (5,16,52,65)
