The Garda Air Support Unit will be among extra resources drafted in to monitor car activity during the Galway International Rally Weekend.
There have been a rising number of problems and complaints relating to “boy racer” activity in the city.
Gardaí in the area have insisted that there will be a zero tolerance approach to motorists caught ‘drifting’ -performing controlled slides of cars – and other dangerous manoeuvres on the roads and in carparks. There will be no exceptions to the rule.
Gardaí will monitor activity closely to ensure that restrictions are adhered to, and will follow related activity on social media sites.
Already, more than 800 people have indicated on a Facebook event page that they will be attending a meet-up tonight in a city carpark.
