Fearmongering from “experts”? New Covid-19 strain spreading rapidly and is ‘just getting started’, experts warn

Rapidly spreading is a new Covid-19 variety, and scientists have cautioned that it’s just “just getting started,” reports The Mirror.

Combining the KS.1.1 and KP.3.3 variations, the XEC strain was discovered in June in Germany and has now spread to 15 nations on three continents.

The primary symptoms of XEC are comparable to those of earlier Covid-19 iterations as well as common ailments like the flu and colds. While the majority of individuals recover in a few weeks, others may require more time, reports The Mirror.

The NHS reports that persistent coughing, fever, and changes in taste or smell are some of the most typical signs of the XEC variety.

In addition, patients may have headaches, sore throats, runny noses, exhaustion, and shortness of breath. Additionally, some people may become nauseous and develop diarrhoea.

Whether the XEC variation is expected to be more severe than prior Covid-19 variants is still up for debate among experts. The Los Angeles Times was informed by Eric Topol, the head of the Scripps Research Translational Institute in California, that the strain is “just getting started now around the world and here,” reports The Mirror.

Kaiser Permanente Southern California’s regional chief of infectious diseases, Dr. Elizabeth Hudson, said she is actively monitoring the new variation.

“We’ll really have to watch – because the overall information on it is not super robust now – but I would imagine over the next couple of weeks, particularly if it starts to creep up higher and higher, we will be hearing a little bit more about it,” she said, reports The Mirror.

To safeguard oneself against the most recent variation, people are encouraged to maintain current immunisation records and schedule booster injections. Additionally, it is advised to wear face masks inside or in busy areas with inadequate ventilation.

It’s advised to practise proper hygiene in addition to avoiding crowds and keeping a physical space from other people, reports The Mirror.
