Fears grow Irish people will be further pushed down the owning and even renting ladder as a result of 100,000 more people in the country

Fears are growing that Ireland’s property crisis is going to get even worse as a result of the Ukraine conflict.

With 100,000 more people coming into the country, many believe that homeownership and even the ability to rent will be just too far out of their reach with the increased demand for accommodation.

Michael Martin, the rotating Taoiseach, has pledged his government to do “everything it can” to procure accommodation for Ukrainians. Previously, the Irish government invited unlimited numbers of Ukrainians to permanent resettlement in Ireland with no cap on numbers entering our country which has been experiencing a rental and house crisis for decades.

100,000+ Ukrainian refugees are expected to arrive in Ireland at the invitation of the Irish Government.

According to BreakingNews.ie, Micheál Martin said that housing and accommodation will need to be “refurbished” for the thousands fleeing the war-torn country. It is unknown what properties he earmarks for so-called “refurbishment”. It’s unlikely Ireland has the housing stock already built in need of “refurbishment”.

This weekend will see Ukrainians housed in private hotels at an unknown cost to the Irish taxpayer. as the Government attempts to source other properties.

More than 7,000 refugees have arrived in Ireland, with the number expected to increase significantly in the coming days and weeks.
