The final toll of the Norman Atlantic ferry fire in the Adriatic sea is seven people dead, and four hundred and fourteen brought ashore to safety.

Emergency personnel worked tirelessly in adverse weather conditions during the night to get people out of the burning vessel. Helicopter crews were pelted with hail and battered by high winds as they airlifted stranded passengers, two or three at a time.

The rescue operation is now finished, and both the Italian and Greek premiers have expressed their condolences to the victims of this maritime disaster and praised the efforts of the emergency crews.
