Fianna Fail and Fine Gael are meeting to discuss forming a possible government coalition

The leaders of Fianna Fail and Fine Gael, whom Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald aptly referred to as ‘Tweedledum and Tweedledee during a recent election debate, have agreed to meet for ‘exploratory’ talks this week in an effort to form a coalition government to keep Sinn Fein out.

It is understood that the leaders held a telephone conversation late on Thursday evening.

It’s believed that the leaders will discuss the possibility of a ‘grand coalition’ during their upcoming meeting, despite the fact that outgoing Taoiseach Leo Varadkar insisted that his party was firmly heading into opposition.
