According to a recent report it is understood that the amount of people currently waiting on the social housing lists is a staggering 45% higher than previously thought.
The news comes after the Fianna Fáil party obtained data that shows a total of 130,000 people are currently waiting for a new home. Fianan Fail say they obtained the dat from each county council under the Freedom of Information requests act.
The new figures reportedly contradict the Department of the Environment’s current figures by a massive 45%. The news has angered Fianna Fáil’s Barry Cowen who says the figures released by the Department have been highly misleading and the Irish people should know about the current depths that are within the housing crisis.
Mr Cowen said: “The Government’s figures are anything but up to date…The publication of these figures takes the cat out of the bag and lights up for everybody to see the huge and enormous scale of this issue.”
