Fianna Fáil reveal they are open to the possibility of supporting water charges if certain criteria is fulfilled

In a rather unsurprising announcement the Fianna Fáil party have revealed they have not ruled out supporting the possible return of water charges in the future.

The party, who earlier this week claimed the possibility of water charges returning was unlikely, have once again performed u-turn saying they would support the charges only if certain criteria was fulfilled. The party also say their current opposition to the charges should not be seen as a permanent position.

The news comes as a number of senior Fianna Fáil sources, stated the possibility of reintroducing water charges could possibly be revisited if a substantial upgrade was undertaken on current water infrastructure.

However, the party still believe water charges should be paid through general taxation rather than a direct payment scheme.
