The often outspoken Business man Dennis O’Brien has finally had his say on the recent European Apple tax ruling by claiming the global tech company was unfairly picked on.
Mr O’Brien who is never afraid to speak his mind said the Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager purposely singled out the US giant because they are one of the world’s biggest and most wealthiest brands.
In an extensive interview with Bloomberg television, the media entrepreneur said: “Apple played by the rules, there was no special arrangement, it was Apple going by the rules that were set there.”
“Brussels is out of control in terms of the federalism agenda.” “Apple employ 6,000 people in Cork so they’ve been a good long-term investor in Ireland.”
Mr O’Brien added: “Vestager just picked on them because they are one of the biggest brands and most valuable companies in the world and said ‘we’re going to try something here. I don’t believe it’s going to succeed.”
