A children’s drag storytelling event at the Tralee Library in Co. Kerry on Thursday was confronted by protesters who opposed the practice, reports The Mirror.
The incident occurred shortly before 1:00pm and they saw adult protesters enter a side room of the library to confront those facilitating storytelling, claiming it was “immoral to read filth to children” and loudly objected to the site for several minutes, reports The Mirror.
The library staff desperately tried to defuse the tension until Garda arrived.
Drag Story Time was held as part of Kingdom Pride Month, an LGBTQ+ festival that takes place in Kerry every July.
A spokesperson for the Gardaí said: “Gardaí attended the scene of a public order incident that occurred in a library in Tralee, Co. Kerry this afternoon, Thursday 13th July 2023 shortly before 1pm. Gardaí are conducting enquiries into all the circumstances surrounding this matter. No arrests have been made at this time and enquiries are ongoing,” reports The Mirror.
