Fighting back: Riots across Spain as government tightens lockdown measures

Anti-lockdown protestors have clashed with police in several cities across Spain as the country increases its Covid-19 restrictions.

In the centre of Madrid on Saturday night huge clashes broke out between protestors and police. Multiple buildings were vandalised while protestors assembled barricades on the city’s Gran Via boulevard according to RT. Police fired blank bullets to disperse the violent crowds.

Meanwhile Barcelona saw its second night of violent protest, as Catalonia brings in new laws banning people from leaving their neighbourhoods on weekends among other measures. Police were attacked with stones and projectiles.

Other cities that have seen violence on the streets are Bilbao, Malaga, Granada, and Logrono. The Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez condemned the ‘violent and irrational behaviour’ of protestors and called on the country to show ‘responsibility, unity, and sacrifice’.
