Today, hundreds of Garda personnel will be wearing these baseball hats as their new headgear, according to Garda leaders, reports The Mirror.

Starting on Friday, all uniformed members of the force will wear the new hats. This morning, Garda HQ unveiled the new headwear.

The classic peaked hats that have been worn for decades are replaced with the dark blue caps, which have a huge Garda crest in gold on the front, reports The Mirror.

The change is a component of a multi-million euro project to modernise the Garda uniform as a whole. As part of the plan, police received new clothes in 2022, and now they’re receiving a new headgear. On top of their light blue Garda uniforms, officers are reportedly also receiving a dark blue gilet.

According to the Gardaí, all officers will continue to wear the customary peaked cap during formal events and ceremonies. For these occasions, officers will also continue to wear the official shirt and tie, reports The Mirror.

Additionally, according to information obtained by The Irish Mirror, Gardaí are testing new equipment for force motorcycle riders. A roads policing team is testing the equipment to see if all Garda bikers can wear it.

According to reports, the equipment is more breathable than the present biker leathers, but it still provides the same level of protection, reports The Mirror.
