The first transgender Olympian Laurel Hubbard has crashed out of the women’s +87kg weightlifting in Japan after three failures to complete a clean and jerk.
“I don’t think it should be historic,” Hubbard said of their participation in Tokyo, which had been one of the most contentious issues in the lead-up to the Olympics.
“As we move into a new and more understanding world, people are starting to realise that people like me are just people. We are human and as such I hope that just by being here is enough.
“All I have ever wanted as an athlete, is to be regarded as an athlete.”
Despite near universal praise and adoration heaped on Hubbard by the corporate media and sports organisations many women’s rights and feminist organisations have spoken out against the trans athletes participation in the women’s competition saying its unfair for biological man to compete against real women.
