Tributes have been paid to a County Cork Priest and bus driver who both died following a crash in Monkstown in Cork Harbour on Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened on the Strand Road in Monkstown in Cork Harbour when a Bus Éireann bus lost control and hit the Priest’s car at 1.30pm.

The driver of the bus was a 51-yr-old man from Cork and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

73-yr-old Father Con Cronin, who was the curate in the parishes of Passage West and Monkstown, was sadly also pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Locals say that Fr Con was a very valued member of the community and liked by all. They say he spent some 25 years as a Missionary in Africa and returned in 2004. He was active in the Parish and “got on very well with everyone. He’ll be very missed throughout Monkstown and Passage West”

The driver of the bus has not yet been named publicly.
