Fitzgerald calls for more to be done after she launches women’s equality action plan

Ireland has still got a long way to go in terms of gender equality. the Tanasite Francis Fitzgerald has said today.

Ms Fitzgerald who was speaking ahead of the launch of her action plan that will create a more equal environment in high profile positions, has said the Irish Government and it’s people must do more to create a level playing field in order to give women more significant roles in modern society.

Ms Fitzgerald also said the new action plan which is mainly focused at creating more top level positions at Government level for women should be implemented sooner rather than later as Ireland is lagging behind other nations when it comes to gender equality.

Speaking today Ms Fitzgerald said:”You know, sometimes people think that the job is finished, it’s unfinished.

“It’s an unfinished democracy in terms of representation of women in lots of different areas.”

“It’s about making sure there is a critical mass of women involved in decision making across our society, and we still don’t have that.”
