It is Reported that over five million cigarettes with a retail value of almost €2.4m have been seized by the Revenue’s Customs Service at Rosslare Europort, today.
The cigarettes were seized as part of a ongoing operation to crack down on the sale of illegal cigarettes in the country, brandssuch as Minsk’ and ‘Winston’ were found, when officers stopped and searched a ‘curtain sider’ truck as it arrived on a ferry from Cherbourg, France yesterday.
It is reporrted that the cigarettes were concealed in six tanks, each approximately 5’ x 6’ x 7’ in size, which had been described on the ship manifest as “thermal storage tanks”
A Lithuanian national was questioned by Revenue officials and investigations are ongoing.
