At least five people have been killed after two military helicopters crashed in the South of France this morning.

According to French state media all five passengers on board both aircrafts were killed after they crashed near Lake Carces, which is located a few miles north of the Riviera resort of St Tropez.

Although a rescue mission is underway to find others onboard, authorities say all five passengers killed in the tragic crash were from the Army’s School of Light Aviation (EALAT), which is located in the nearby town of Cannet des Maures.

It is believed rescue teams are conducting a search in the area surrounding the crash site, in the hope of finding the remaining crew members who were on board both helicopters.
