A Florida woman has been charged with first-degree murder after police said she allegedly stabbed her husband more than 140 times.
Joan Burke, 61, who is being held without bail, appeared before a Palm Beach County judge via video link on Sunday, according to CNN.
In an incident report, Palm Springs police officers said they went to Burke’s home on the night of February 11 after receiving a call from a man posing as the suspect’s son.
The caller said he got home from work to find the body of his stepfather, Melvin Weller, 62, lying in a pool of blood on the kitchen floor. When asked by the 911 dispatcher if anyone was home at the time, the caller paused for a few seconds and then said his mother, Joan Burke, was there, the report said.
The woman remains in custody with a court date not announced at this time.
