A High Court judge has awarded a woman nearly €100,000 for a faulty bridge and dental implants, reports Breaking News.
Namali Gunetileke (60), from Sri Lanka, employed as a nursery assistant in Galway, sued Eduard Bujevics and Norbert Szent, who ran a dental practice in Woodquay, Ennis, Co. Clare.
She claimed that she suffered severe physical and mental pain as a result of the dental treatment she received from the defendants in 2013.
Initially, a full defence of liability was brought, but when the case was scheduled to be heard, the defendants failed to appear.
The lawyers they had initially hired withdrew because they did not receive instructions from the defendants.
Judge Michael O’Higgins awarded Ms Gunetileke €99,789 after hearing evidence from her and a dental expert. The judge was also given reports from other dental experts, reports Breaking News.
The judge found that Ms Gunetileke, in her 40s, suffered from dental problems and had lost her lower incisors in 2012 and had her implants replaced in 2013.
Her family also had a history of periodontal disease.
The defendants made a bridge and two implants. For unclear reasons, all the teeth and implants were combined into an eight-tooth bridge, the judge said, reports Breaking News.
While awarding both defendants 99,789 euros, the judge included 10,000 euros for emotional distress.
