Forest fire in Galway spreads in high winds and hot temperatures

Today’s hot weather has caused the forest fire currently raging at a Galway forest park to spread beyond its initial confines.

The fire is currently out of control again, as it burns through the 4,000 hectare site.

A large number of firefighting units are battling the flames, which are being fanned by high winds. The blaze is likely to continue burning for at least another night.

While no residential properties have yet been affected, the unpredictable nature of the fire could very well threaten homes in the coming hours.
