Three former Anglo executives will serve jail time for their involvement in severe financial irregularities at the bank.

Former Anglo chief risk officer Willie McAteer has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years. Former Anglo treasury official John Bowe will serve two years, while former Irish Life & Permanent chief executive Denis Casey has been sentenced to two years and nine months.

In passing sentence, Judge Martin Nolan referred to the case as one where “honesty and integrity was sorely lacking.”

The case centered about the men’s attempts to inflate Anglo’s accounts and make them appear healthier, to the tune of over 7bn.

The men showed little emotion when sentenced.
